EMERYVILLE — An infant who was inside a car stolen from a store parking lot Wednesday was found moments later at a West Oakland intersection, authorities said.
In a statement, police said officers responded to a stolen-vehicle report just after 10 a.m at Home Depot, 3838 Hollis Street.
A woman reported that her car had just been driven away with her 4-month-old child inside, still strapped in a car seat. Witnesses who saw the theft tried to follow the Honda, but lost sight of it a few blocks into West Oakland.
Moments later, Oakland police responded to a caller reporting a child found in the roadway near 28th and Union streets.
Realizing the child was likely connected to the car theft, Oakland and Emeryville officers coordinated to reunite the mother and infant, who was unharmed.
Police describe the still-missing car as a metallic dark-grey 2018 Honda Accord foor-door sedan with California license plate 8EGL341. There was no information immediately released on a possible suspect.
