A’s, Rays announce starting lineups for AL Wild Card Game
The Oakland Athletics are set to host their first playoff game in six years, and the Coliseum is going to be packed.
The A’s say they have sold more than 50,000 tickets to Wednesday night’s AL Wild Card Game against the Tampa Bay Rays.
They’ll have to contend with Rays starter Charlie Morton, as well as the shadows the Coliseum will certainly throw for a 5 p.m. start time. With Morton’s curveball and other off-speed offerings, those shadows could be even more difficult.
The A’s won’t go with a super left-handed lineup to match up against the Rays righty — Matt Olson is the only true left-handed hitter in the starting nine, though Jurickson Profar and Robbie Grossman offer switch-hitting options. The major questions in the batting order have been answered in the final two spots, which go to Grossman and C Sean Murphy.
