Maniac mows down 20 kangaroos in ‘deliberate’ hit-and-run spree leaving corpses littered over people’s lawns
TWENTY kangaroos were mowed down during a hit-and-run spree in rural Australia which has been labelled a “senseless slaughter”.
The bodies of the roos were found sprawled along the side of a road in Tura Beach, on the coast of New South Wales.
Many of the lifeless animals were lying slumped on the front lawns of local residents’ homes.
Cops believe someone intentionally ran over the animals – including adults and joeys – late on Saturday night.
Evidence suggests the kangaroos were struck by a white truck with mounted spotlights, reports 7 News reported.
“So the roos would have stood there stunned and then they just ran them down,” said Janine Green of Australia’s Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Service.
“It was just pure, senseless slaughter. There’s no reason for it.
“Residents on the streets were just stunned, because they woke up on Sunday morning to find dead bodies strewn all over their lawns.
“The kangaroos are part of their community, they’ve lived there forever. For someone to do a mass slaughter like that is just unbelievable.”
Local Rob Evans said the whole community was absolutely sickened by the killings.
“When I went out this morning there were about four or five I could see just lying dead with broken bones and the bones actually protruding from the skin, so they’d been hit very hard,” he said.
“It was a very unpleasant sight,” he said.

He said police were forced to put down several kangaroos that had been severely injured.
NSW Police said officers had identified a vehicle of interest and were continuing to investigate.
“Police believe that up to 20 kangaroos may have been run over by a vehicle between 10.30pm and 11.30pm on Saturday,” NSW Police said.
