TWITTER cannot believe how terrible the Manchester United vs Arsenal game is – with some branding it “pub football”.
Players from both sides really struggled to get any rhythm going in a drab first half between the two Europa League sides.
Scott McTominay finally lit it up with a brilliant strike in the 45th minute – as Arsenal captain Granit Xhaka ducked – but the rest of the half was a tragic affair as the rain poured down at Old Trafford.
And fans were not afraid to vent their utter frustration on social media.
One said: “This is like watching pub football, just horrid,” to which one replied that was being “harsh” on pub football.
Another wrote: “I can’t believe how bad the standard of deadball delivery is in elite level professional football these days. Boys out the pub could put better balls in.”
A third added: “This has to be the worst game I’ve watched in years.”
A similar tweet read: “Gotta be up there with the worst game of football I’ve ever watched both teams technically poor.”
And another user tweeted: “This is one of the worst games of football I’ve ever watched… And I’ve seen Stoke play at home.
It is a far cry from the glory days of Sir Alex Ferguson against Arsene Wenger, Roy Keane against Patrick Vieira.
Keane is in the Sky Sports studio and unsurprisingly blasted the two sides for a “shocking” opening 45 minutes.
He said: “Shocking. We can’t believe how bad it is, a real lack of quality, struggling to keep their feet.
“The lack of quality is frightening but that won’t bother United if they get the win.”
And plenty of others were simply not accepting it.
@HtotheQ said: “League Cup games where Ferguson and Wenger played reserves and kids were better than what these two first teams have put on so far today.”
@Llandegren added: “Remember when Arsenal fans wanted wenger out… for this.”
Another vented: “Possibly the worst ever game I’ve ever seen between these two clubs. Such a lack of quality on both teams.”
Earlier, Jamie Carragher compiled his all-time combined XI from the two sides.
But he did not include a single player currently plying their trade for either of the two giant clubs.
