A fruitful conversation
Sunnyvale orchardist Charles Olson, founder of C.J. Olson’s Cherries, will share the stage with Robin Chapman, Los Altos author of “California Apricots: The Lost Orchards of Silicon Valley,” Oct. 6 at the Saratoga Library. Chapman will interview Olson, 84, a third-generation grower who now operates the Sunnyvale Heritage Orchard and also has interests in development and real estate, will tell the tale of his family, who immigrated to the Santa Clara Valley in the 19th century and prospered.
Los Altos, Saratoga, and Sunnyvale are the only three cities in the Santa Clara Valley to have retained heritage orchards as “The Valley of Heart’s Delight” morphed into Silicon Valley.

A bonding experience
The Los Gatos -Saratoga Union High School District is seeking applicants to serve on its Measure E Bond Oversight Committee. The independent citizens’ committee which annually reviews the district’s compliance with the terms of Measure E. The committee includes parents and guardians and community members.

All applications are due by Oct. 15 at 4 p.m. Applications will be reviewed by the district’s board of trustees at their Oct. 29 meeting.
