Tampa Bay Rays to activate Yandy Diaz, per report
Diaz has been on the Injured List since late July and was expected to be out for the season
The Tampa Bay Rays are on the verge of making a massive addition — both figuratively and literally — to their active roster as they’re planning to activate infielder Yandy Diaz from the 60-day Injured List ahead tomorrow’s season finale against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Diaz has been on the mend since fracturing his left foot when he a fouled a ball of it during an at-bat against the Boston Red Sox on July 23rd. Originally diagnosed as a left-foot contusion, the Rays would later find out that Diaz suffered an uncommon hairline fracture to the navicular bone in his left foot, which at the time was thought have ended Diaz’s season.
However, with the Rays clinching a postseason berth, Diaz will return to the Rays for their final game of the season and presumably play in the team’s Wild Card game on Wednesday.

The Rays originally acquired Diaz this past offseason as part of a three team deal with the Cleveland Indians and Seattle Mariners. Once on the Rays, Tampa Bay gave Diaz an opportunity to start everyday and with that additional playing time, Diaz thrived. Thus far in 2019, Diaz has hit .270/.343/.480 with 14 HR over 344 plate appearances.
Once Diaz is activated, the Rays will need to make a corresponding roster move to clear a spot off of their 40-man roster.
