Nigel Farage probed by police for vowing to ‘take knife to pen pushers’

Police are investigating Nigel Farage after he vowed to ‘take the knife to pen pushers in Whitehall’.

The Brexit Party leader, who was on a nationwide conference tour, made the comments during a rally last week in Newport, south Wales.

But he doubled down when later asked about it, tweeting: ‘I should have said “take the axe”, which is a more traditional term for cuts.’

Addressing a crowd of 500 people, he said: ‘Once Brexit is done, we will take the knife to the pen pushers in Whitehall.’

It shocked Alliance Party MEP Naomi Long, who took to Twitter to ask Gwent Police if they would investigate.

She said it was a ‘clear case of incitement to violence against staff in the civil service’.

The force responded saying they were looking in to the allegations.

It comes during a time of mounting concern about violent rhetoric used by politicians when talking about Breixt.

Former Home Secretary Amber Rudd said Boris Johnson’s use of the terms ‘Surrender Act’ and ‘traitor’ is ‘inciting violence’.

Farage defended Johnson on Twitter, saying he is ‘right’ to use those words.

The Prime Minister has been urged to apologise after saying the best way to honour murdered Labour MP Jo Cox would be to ‘get Brexit done’.

The remain-backing politician was shot and stabbed by a neo-Nazi Thomas Mair in June 2016 during the European Union referendum campaign.
