Chelsea fans confused by Frank Lampard’s claim Barkley is penalty taker after Jorginho overrules him to score from spot against Brighton
JORGINHO overruled Ross Barkley to take score a sport-kick against Brighton – leaving Chelsea’s penalty taker situations as clear as mud.
Blues chief Frank Lampard claimed the England ace was his first in the queue but Jorginho stepped up against the Seagulls.
And that came after Barkley watched Pedro net from 12 yards against Grimsby despite being on the field both times.
Jorginho kept his cool to fire home to Matt Ryan’s right – leaving the keeper rooted to the spot.
But supporters questioned why the Italian stepped up in the first place when Lampard had publicly backed Barkley.
One, who added a clown emoji for effect, tweeted: “Thought Barkley was the Penalty Taker when he is on the pitch? Frank Lampard ?”
While another questioned if Gary Neville would have anything to say after slamming Paul Pogba for his miss in a Manchester United shirt.
Earlier this month, the former Everton man missed a crucial penalty against Valencia after Jorginho and Willian appeared to try and take the ball off him.

Lampard explained after the Grimsby match, that he chose chosen Pedro as the designated penalty taker for the evening.
He said: “The good thing is that I can choose things and I chose him for the penalty and as captain.”
Willian added a second for Chelsea after Jorginho’s second-half strike to leave the Blues on course for victory.
