Reign FC welcomed the Utah Royals FC in a rescheduled match Wednesday evening in Tacoma with significant playoff position on the line. The winner would be in the driver seat with two matches remaining. A draw would favor the visitors who had the goal difference tie breaker.
Bethany Balcer put the home side into the lead in the first half, slotting her fifth goal of the season and making her case for league rookie of the year that much stronger.
Utah leveled. Katie Stengel brought the match to 1-1 in the 67th minute.
With stoppage time looming, Jodie Taylor made it 2-1 and perhaps not only salvaged three points, but perhaps the Reign FC season and playoff spot.
With RFC facing their Cascadia rivals on Sunday on ESPN, they still control their fate. With Utah traveling on to play in Chicago on Saturday, much will be known prior to kickoff Sunday AM.
