Phoebe Waller-Bridge regrets killing off hit show Fleabag after incredible hat-trick at the Emmys
PHOEBE Waller-Bridge questioned her earlier decision to axe hit show Fleabag after scooping an incredible hat-trick at the Emmys.
The Londoner, 34, won gongs for Outstanding Comedy Writer, Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, becoming the first Brit to win the latter for 38 years.
Afterwards, Phoebe admitted she had not realised how loved her comedy creation was until now.
She said: “Even though it’s so nice to hear that so many people loved it, it’s like: Oh dammit, maybe I shouldn’t have waved goodbye. But it does feel right to go out on a high.
“It doesn’t get higher than this. It feels like the perfect way to say goodbye.”
Her comedy-drama Fleabag — which she created and starred in — also bagged Harry Bradbeer a gong for Best Comedy Director.
It ran for two series on the BBC between 2018 and 2019 and Phoebe brought a stage version to the West End earlier this year.
Phoebe, who was also head writer on the first series of Killing Eve, is now working on new latest Bond film No Time To Die.
She had the audience at LA’s Microsoft Theater in stitches after referring to herself as a “dirty, pervy, angry messed-up woman” during her acceptance speech.
She said: “I feel like I’ve come in the back door and nicked something — that’s the truth. It’s just really wonderful to know and reassuring that a dirty, pervy, angry messed-up woman can make it to the Emmys.”
Phoebe glammed up for her big night in a revealing dress that showed off her cleavage.
Of her outfit, she said: “I can’t move in certain ways because the girls want to come to the party — maybe later? I have always wanted to go booby but never had the guts.”
Phoebe was joined on stage by her co-stars, including Sian Clifford, 34, and Andrew Scott, 42, who became a fan favourite in his role as the “hot priest” in the second series.
She said of casting Andrew: “I was inspired by Andrew and his hotness, to be fair. I knew I wanted to write about religion and faith.
“It became the idea of Fleabag falling in love and faith — and then Andrew walked into that space. It just made sense.”
Off stage, Phoebe also went public with her boyfriend, filmmaker Martin McDonagh, 49.
The couple started dating last year after Phoebe’s divorce from Conor Woodman but have kept their relationship out of the spotlight.

But when Phoebe was announced as Best Actress winner, she turned and kissed Martin.
After her gongs triumph, Phoebe partied into the early hours at legendary celebrity haunt Chateau Marmont.
Camden’s favourite cafe-owning party girl would have been proud.
