Zion Williamson wowed basketball fans from the moment he stepped foot on Duke’s campus. There were videos of him dunking from the free-throw line during the Blue Devils’ Canada tour. And there were videos of Zion breaking Duke’s vertical-leap record by more than maxing out the testing device.
Well, somehow, it didn’t take very long for that record to be broken at all.
According to a video posted from Duke Basketball’s Twitter account, incoming freshman Cassius Stanley broke Williamson’s record this week on the max vertical (a full-approach jump — not to be confused with a no-step, standing vert). Duke didn’t provide a figure, though.
If you look back to last year’s Zion videos, Duke needed to add plates because Zion exceeded the machines standard capacity. They appeared to make the tool measure at around 13 feet (or the top of the backboard) after the plates were stacked.
Zion’s jump
Stanley is about an inch shorter than Williamson, and the new video didn’t provide a clear view of the backboard or any weights stacked at the bottom of the testing tool.
But if you believe that video, Duke already has a new vertical king.
