I’ve been forced to put my grief on hold as no one is helping me sort out my dad’s funeral

DEAR DEIDRE: EVERYONE has left me to sort out my dead dad’s funeral and estate.

The rest of the family have got on with their grieving. No one has asked if they could help.

Having to organise my dad’s funeral on my own has forced me to put my grief on hold and turn to drink to cope[/caption]

It is all new to me as I am a guy of just 24. I’ve put my grief on hold and I’ve started drinking too much to blot out the misery.

I have tried talking to my mum about it but she just gets annoyed and accuses me of only thinking of myself and not even caring that dad is dead.

DEIDRE SAYS: Talk to your mum specifically about your dad – the good memories you have of him, places you went to with him, and so on. You both need this.

Ask family members to take on specific tasks to help you handle the responsibility.
