UK weather forecast – Brits hit the racecourse and beaches in glorious 23C sunshine to kick off TWO-WEEK Indian summer heatwave

GLORIOUS sunshine has shone on racegoers and beaches as Britain enjoys a late blast of warm weather.

Temperatures are due to hit 23C in some parts of the country today with forecasters predicting a two week Indian summer.

Day four of the St Leger meeting at Doncaster was blessed with summer weather while the beaches of the south-coast were packed with sun seekers.

The Met Office forecast mainly settled conditions with “warm sunshine” for up to two weeks, until the end of September.

After 23C today the Met Office forecast 25C  for Sunday and – after a showery Monday – widespread sunshine from Tuesday as highs climb back to 25C next weekend.

Some 20,000 beach visitors are expected in Brighton today as daytrippers clog coastal routes including the A23 to Brighton and A31 to Dorset.

Met Office forecaster Helen Roberts said: “After 25C on Sunday, a fresher Monday follows – but highs climb through the week, with the mid-20s, maybe 25C, at end of the week.

Britain is in for a beautiful few days of weather, starting from today

“There will be sunny spells widely from Tuesday, with high pressure and a lot of tropical air being drawn up.

“It’s a definite change after an unsettled early September.

“And the week from September 23 also looks like remaining fairly settled with high pressure, although the North-West may see some more unsettled weather at times.”

The Met Office website said most of Britain is set for “plenty of sunshine and warmth” over the coming days.

It added that next week will bring: “Predominantly settled conditions across the UK, with any wet and windy weather confined to the far north.
