Nasr On Laguna BoP Change For Cadillac

Felipe Nasr, fresh off a new contract signing, is hoping that the Balance of Performance changes to the Cadillac DPi-V.R. will be enough to bridge the gap between the Cadillacs and the Acura and Mazda pairings.

“It’s going be a help for sure, but if it’s going to be enough, I don’t know,” Nasr said.

“When I looked back to the last race in Road America, we finished fourth, being the best Cadillac but a minute behind. A minute behind and it makes me think to myself, ‘we did the perfect race, perfect pit stop strategy, and we could still never close the gap to them [Mazda and Acura]. I’m quite happy they did something over here, but if that’s going to be enough, I don’t know.”

Prior to this weekends’ race, Cadillac was given a two-litre larger fuel tank, a cut in weight, and a boost in engine power. Acura, Nissan, and Mazda had no significant changes.

Pipo Derani and Nasr are just seven points off of the back of Juan Pablo-Montoya and Dane Cameron who lead the championship, adding that he hopes the recent BoP change can vault them back to the top spot at the end of Petit Le Mans.

Nasr also stated that he is looking forward to continuing his relationship with co-driver Pipo Derani, who like Nasr, had his contract renewed as well.

“I’m happy the way we’ve been working together. We seem to have a pretty good feeling on the car, and when we talk about the car, we’re not talking in two different directions, we seem to have similar styles in a way. What we need in a car goes for both of us.” Nasr said.

Derani and Nasr’s relationship goes back to the days of karting against one another but their paths soon diverged as Nasr pursued Formula 1 and Derani moved into sports cars. “Funnily enough, we were back together in the same championship in 2018 and driving for the same team. It’s been pretty good,” Nasr said about his time with Derani.
