'Friends' star Lisa Kudrow struggled with playing Phoebe, and credits costar Matt LeBlanc with helping her through it

• "Friends" actress Lisa Kudrow revealed that she suffered some serious self doubts while portraying Phoebe on the hit sitcom — but that her costar Matt LeBlanc gave her a supportive pep talk to help her get through it. 
• Kudrow told comedian Kevin Nealon that she was "struggling" with the character of Phoebe, but LeBlanc told her to believe in herself. 
• "Relax, you got it. You've been doing this f------ character for three years," Kudrow recalled LeBlanc saying to her.

"Friends" actress Lisa Kudrow revealed in a new interview that she once suffered some serious doubts while on the hit show — but that costar Matt LeBlanc gave her a supportive pep talk to help her get through it. 

"I had played dumb girls [before] but it wasn't really me," Kudrow said of Phoebe while talking to comedian Kevin Nealon, during an appearance on his YouTube series "Hiking with Kevin."

"I [felt] like, 's---, I tricked them in the audition,'" the actress explained. 

"I was the only one who could cope with the audition process and that's now I got it, I think." 

 

Kudrow revealed that she "had to work hard at being Phoebe," and said she was "struggling" at portraying her character during season three of "Friends."

"I remember Matt LeBlanc going, 'What's going on with you?'" Kudrow told Nealon.

"And I said, 'I don't think I have it. I don't know what I'm doing.' And he went, 'You're her, relax, you got it. You've been doing this f---ing character for three years. '" 

The actress said that LeBlanc told her to not worry about her acting. 

"'You're working too hard, that's your problem,'" Kudrow recalled LeBlanc, who played Joey on the show, telling her. 

"'You don't need to work this hard, relax.' He was right.'" 

This isn't the first time Kudrow has opened up about the struggles she faced while filming the hit show. In May, she told Marc Maron that she felt like a "mountain" next to her "Friends" costars Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox.
