Pictures of stolen jewellery released to ‘get justice’ for 93-year-old who died of broken heart
Betty Munroe’s story ‘touched the hearts of many people across the country’ and now images have been published in an effort to ‘get justice’.
The 93-year-old died from a broken heart after struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder following repeated nightmares, trouble sleeping, being sick and being unable to stop shaking – in the aftermath of thieves ransacking her home in front of her.
Betty Munroe was pronounced dead on August 21 after three men forced their way into her house in Northampton on June 11.
Northamptonshire Police have now released images of items taken during the break-in, including a distinctive golden clown pendant.
The burglars gained entry to the back door using garden shears at about 11pm and stole her jewellery, a purse, bank cards, and a gold chain from around her neck.
They also took her late husband’s watch after confronting Betty at her home in Kettering Road North, claiming to be police officers.
Her health deteriorated quickly after the raid and she was taken to hospital with heart trouble before being diagnosed with Takotsubo Syndrome, also known as broken heart syndrome.
Detective Constable Hannah Roche of Northampton CID said: ‘Betty’s story has touched the hearts of many people across the country and I know that I am not alone in saying that we want to get justice for her.
‘If anyone has been offered this jewellery or knows of its whereabouts, please do get in touch with us.’
