Confirmed: Spurs handed yet another injury blow ahead of Arsenal trip

Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier is likely to miss Sunday’s north London derby against Arsenal with a hip problem.

Dier is yet to feature for Spurs this season but may have been used this weekend as a result of mounting injuries at right-back and in central midfield.

Record signing Tabguy Ndombele missed last week’s defeat to Newcastle United with a thigh injury, while Kyle Walker-Peters limped off against the Magpies after feeling his hamstring. Both players have been ruled out of the Arsenal match.

Ndombele’s absence means Moussa Sissoko will be needed in midfield, so there is no chance the Frenchman will be used at right-back as he was against Newcastle when Walker-Peters was substituted.

Dier is being assessed but hopes are not high for him being fit, meaning Mauricio Pochettino has lost yet another right-back alternative. It looks increasingly likely Serge Aurier will make his first appearance of the season.

Aurier returned from the Africa Cup of Nations with a wrist injury but has been training recently and should slot straight into starting line-up despite reports of a possible move away before Monday’s European transfer deadline.
