My best friend always tries to be better than me and it’s seriously annoying me
DEAR DEIDRE: IT’S annoying me that my friend always tries to be better than me, and she is starting to get on my nerves.
We are 15-year-old girls.
I told her my dad was giving me his old iPhone because he was getting an upgrade and next day she said she is getting the latest iPhone.
I told her my family had booked a week’s holiday in a cottage on the south coast, so the next week she said she is going to Spain for two weeks and staying in a posh hotel.
My mum said it is just a phase, but I don’t think it is.

Telling you how great everything is for her is her way of trying to impress you – so it proves that to her you are worth impressing.
But it also shows that your friend has fragile self-esteem.
Tell her you like her for herself but spend time with other friends too and it will grate on you less.
