Australia’s own Callan Potter is getting a second chance to impress in Melbourne.
Officials announced Thursday that Potter (17-8) will welcome recent Contender Series contract winner Maki Pitolo (12-4) to the Octagon in a welterweight bout at UFC 243.
This time, Potter, 34, will have considerably more time to prepare for his next Octagon appearance after making his promotional debut at UFC 234 this past February as a short-notice replacement for Alex Gorgees. Potter would last just 53 seconds before being knocked out by Jalin Turner. He is 9-2 in his last 11 outings.
Pitolo earned a UFC deal in July after picking up a first-round TKO of Justin Sumter on Dana White’s Contender Series. The 28-year-old has won three straight fights, all by knockout or submission.
UFC 243 takes place at Marvel Arena in Melbourne, Australia, on Oct. 5 and is set to be headlined by a middleweight championship unification bout between Robert Whittaker and Israel Adesanya.
