DID you know that the way you sleep could say a lot about your relationship with your partner?
Following a study of 2,000 people, the six most popular sleeping positions have been revealed – and some of them indicate A LOT about what’s going on in the bedroom.
Used by 34 per cent of couples, “The Separation” is the most popular position.
It’s where you sleep facing apart with just a little space inbetween.
And while it can mean good things – it often indicates a secure relationship – it’s also the position couples are most likely to sleep in when one is being unfaithful.
This is said to be because the cheating partner refrains from “getting too close” in case signs of cheating – for example smelling like another woman’s perfume – become apparent.
The second most popular sleeping position is The Back Kisser – used by 22 per cent of couples.
This is thought to be a much more intimate position and sees the couple sleeping back-to-back – but without the space inbetween – and maintaining contact through their feet.
The Spoon is the most popular sleeping position for couples in new relationships with nearly half of participants revealing they use it when they have sex for the first time.
Only 16 per cent of established couples use it, however, with some reporting it’s a difficult position to sleep in.
The name says it all – this is where one partner “hogs” a large proportion of the bed.
This position is the fourth most popular, chosen by 14 per cent of those surveyed.
Also a popular position for new couples, The Nuzzle sees one partner resting their head on the other’s chest.
Despite being the position of choice in the “honeymoon period” only eight per cent of established couples sleep this way.
Similar to The Nuzzle, Tangled is more popular with new couples and sees both bodies completely entwined.
It’s quite difficult to sleep this way, with only six per cent of long-term couples preferring this position.
The most popular sleeping positions were revealed in a new poll of 2,000 people by IllicitEncounters.com, the UK’s leading website for married people.
IllicitEncounters.com sex and relationship expert Jessica Leoni said: “When we sleep, our subconscious minds take over, so the body language we use with a partner can be a precise gauge of what is going on in a relationship.
“Couples tend to be quite intimate in how they sleep when they first together and then gradually drift apart in bed over time.
“This is not necessarily a bad thing – if the relationship is secure you should not need to prove your intimacy by adopting sleep positions which are uncomfortable and make it impossible to drop off.
“The one red flag for anyone should be if you normally share a quite intimate sleeping position with your partner and then they suddenly switch to the Separation position.
“This is a sign that they are up to no good and are worried that signs of their betrayal are evident on their body or they are thinking about another person and spurning intimacy with you.
“Other signs to look out for are them showering or cleaning their teeth as soon as they come in.”
