Mustafi departure in doubt as £25m price tag rules out interested club
Shkodran Mustafi is in danger of being priced out of a move away from Arsenal, his father and agent has admitted.
Arsenal are actively working on the departure of Mustafi, who has failed to meet expectations since joining from Valencia in 2016.
The former Sampdoria centre-back had been linked with a return to Serie A with Roma, who are still looking to sign a replacement for Kostas Manolas, who they sold to rivals Napoli this summer.
However, Sky Sport Italia warn that interest looks likely to fade after Arsenal set their asking price at around £25m – a similar fee to the one the Italian side refused to meet for Tottenham star Toby Alderweireld, who is now tipped to sign a renewal, earlier in the transfer window.
Mustafi’s father-agent, Kujtim, has admitted that the 27-year-old may have to stay at Arsenal, despite Unai Emery openly claiming that a transfer may be the best solution.
“Shkodran had a great time with Arsenal. We still have a contract for two years and can imagine to stay in London,” he told Sky Sports Germany.
“However, the best for both sides is probably to work on a transfer. But for that it also needs market-driven transfer-fees.”
