Bride-to-be who battled with comfort eating from childhood shed 9st in nine months ahead of her wedding day
A BRIDE-to-be has revealed how she shed nine stone before her wedding day after years of struggling with comfort snacking and over-eating.
Kat Burrows, 31, from Basingstoke, weighed in at 19st 13lb and wore a UK size 24 at her heaviest – but managed to drop down to 10st 13lb and fit into a size 8 before the big day.
Kat, an infrastructure analyst, admits she grew up overweight and revealed how she used to sneak food out of the cupboards as a child.
She said: “Growing up in our house, food was always a treat so I always associated it with happiness or for times when I needed comforting.
“This mentality followed me into adult life and I used food as a crutch for many of life’s obstacles. I became stuck in a cycle of emotional eating.”
It was only when she and husband Harvey met in 2016 that she found the support she needed to start her weight loss journey.
“Having someone support you unconditionally is amazing,” she explained. “If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be the healthy and happy woman I am today.”
Kat got the help she needed from LighterLife, who helped her to change her lifestyle after seeing a friend’s mum lose weight using their programme.
She said: “What’s amazing about it is the group support. My counsellor was always motivating me and I really enjoyed the weekly cognitive behavioural therapy she took me through.”
Harvey and Kat got hitched earlier this month, with the newlyweds describing it as an ‘amazing’ day.
“Harvey did nothing but love and support me through my LighterLife weight-loss journey,” Kat added. “He made me believe I was worth something and that I could do it.”

And while she lost weight for the wedding, she wants to remain at her goal weight and has her sights set on how her healthier lifestyle will benefit her in the future.
“We’d love to start a family and because I’ve lost weight, I’ll be able to be an active parent,” she said. “When I look to the future, I don’t worry about my weight or my health.
“We can’t wait to see what the future holds.”
