Brendan Schaub: Fans now like Nate Diaz more than Conor McGregor

UFC megastar Conor McGregor hasn’t done himself any favors as of late.
Video footage was released earlier this week of ‘The Notorious’ striking a fellow Irishman on the head at a bar in his hometown of Dublin, and the former two-division champ has come under fire from just about everyone, including his own fans.
While McGregor’s reputation has undoubtedly taken a battering this past week, the Irishman’s former opponent, Nate Diaz, has skyrocketed in popularity since his comeback fight against Anthony Pettis at UFC 241.
Diaz outclassed Pettis to take home a unanimous decision in the co-headlining bout at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, and the 34-year-old has been trending on YouTube and social media ever since.
Have fans had enough of McGregor’s antics and shifted over to the Diaz army? Former UFC heavyweight contender turned podcast host and comedian Brendan Schaub seems to think so.
Speaking on a recent edition of Below the Belt, Schaub believes fans are currently more interested in Diaz than they are McGregor.
“I think now because what Conor’s doing we’re all like, ‘alright man, we’re out,’” Schaub said, per Fernando Quiles Jr. of MMA News. “And then Nate Diaz somehow gone from heel to [face] and we’re like, we’re rooting for him. We want him to get paid, we want to see him fight big fights. Yeah you’re kinda like, ‘holy f*ck. Nate Diaz is the good dude here.’ Just because what Conor, all the shenanigans he’s done. And for me to go, ‘dude I can’t defend you’ is a truckload.”
McGregor, 31, has apologized for his recent behaviour and hopes to return to the Octagon by the end of the year.
