Anti-abortion politician says rape and incest helped populate the world
A pro-life politician defended his views by claiming rape and incest helped make the world what it is today.
Steve King, a Republica who represents Iowa’s 4th district in the US House of Representatives told a conservative gathering on Wednesday: ‘What if we went back through all the family trees and just pulled out anyone who was a product of rape or incest?
‘Would there be any population of the world left if we did that?
‘Considering all the wars and all the rapes and pillages that happened throughout all these different nations, I know that I can’t say that I was not a part of a product of that.’
‘I’d like to think that every one of the lives of us are as precious as any other life.’
The politician made the controversial remarks in an attempt to defend his stance that terminations should not be allowed even if a pregnancy is the result of rape or incest.
King, who is Catholic, added: ‘It’s not the baby’s fault for the sin of the father, or of the mother’, in a recording obtained by the Des Moines Register.

He claimed the New York Times story which published those quotes ‘misquoted’ him, and that a plot had been orchestrated to try and oust him from his job.
But the remarks saw King condemned by multiple members of his own party, with US House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy removing him from his committee assignments.
King later claimed that he does not support the ‘odious ideology’ of white nationalism, but called the United States ‘the flagship for western civilization’.
