Mets Fans and Players: You’re Going To Hear Them Roar!

The New York Mets are fun again.

I am writing this after the Mets lost Sunday to the Nationals. But… I am still having fun, aren’t you? The answer should be yes. Because despite the loss, the Mets still won the series. They have won their sixth series in a row. And they are headed into Atlanta with a ton of momentum.

It’s a fun time to be a Mets fan. It’s also a fun time to be a Mets player. But who is having more fun right now?

The answer is both. We are all having fun. And lots of it.

Citi Field was absolutely electric this past homestand. It felt like October baseball. The weekend series against the Nationals was pretty much a complete sell-out. Fans were loud, even during Sunday’s game where the Mets unfortunately snapped their winning streak. The energy was still there. And the players felt it and basked in it.

We all saw the postgame celebration from the team on Friday night — that perfectly showcased how much fun this team is having. Dominic Smith rushed the field on his scooter (with a LFGM license plate, no less). Jacob deGrom ran onto the field carrying the jug of Gatorade. Pete Alonso and Amed Rosario ripped Michael Conforto‘s jersey off. They were all having the time of their lives right there with the fans screaming their heads off from the stands.

I was in the outfield for Friday and Saturday night’s games. I couldn’t help but notice how much fun J.D. Davis was having out there in left. He was pumped with every strikeout Marcus Stroman and Noah Syndergaard recorded. He was just as excited as every fan in that stadium, and that only escalated when he stepped up to the plate – starting the walk-off rally Friday night and then his 410-foot home run to center Saturday night.

Even with Sunday afternoon’s loss, the team isn’t discouraged. In his postgame interview, Alonso went on to say that “regardless of today, we have a ton of momentum going into this road trip,” and reiterated how the team has been playing great baseball so far this second half. Stroman tweeted about how it was a great homestand and seemed excited to be off to Atlanta (for what I am going to assume is also excitement to begin another winning streak).

The Mets have won 15 out of 17. The team is having fun. The fans are having fun. Everyone is feeling the excitement. Everyone is ready to win.
