Brian Copeland, Charlie Varon take their Trump-themed ‘S*** Show’ on the road

There are a lot of ways to describe the American political landscape these days, but it seems Bay Area writers/entertainers Brian Copeland and Charlie Varon have come up with a phrase as good as any.

The two acclaimed mainstays of the Bay Area solo theater scene have created “The Great American S*** Show,” described as a night of “monologues on life in the age of Trump.” The show is meant to draw laughs and prompt introspection about President Donald J. Trump and the dysfunctional state of American politics.

And in case you hand’t guessed already, the show is not likely to appeal to Trump supporters.

The two performers have a wealth of experiences in mining laughs and poignancy from hot-button topics. Copeland has scored hits with “Not a Genuine Black Man” and “The Waiting Period,” while Varon has earned acclaim for “Rush Limbaugh in Night School” and “Rabbi Sam,” and has long been regarded as one of the best pure storytellers in the Bay Area.

More good news: “S*** Show” was developed with and is directed by David Ford, one of the top solo theater directors going.

The comedy is embarking on a short Bay Area tour, with three shows this weekend.
