Arsenal had the best transfer window, says Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher
ARSENAL had the best transfer window, according to Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher.
The Gunners turned a £45million budget into the signings of Nicolas Pepe, Kieran Tierney and Dani Ceballos amongst others.
Raul Sanllehi helped mastermind a £72m move for in-demand Pepe – with only £20m spent up-front, with the rest spread over instalments for the next five years.
Arsenal also welcomed David Luiz for just £8m, as well as Gabriel Martinelli and William Saliba – who will spend the year on loan at St Etienne.
And Carragher has revealed he believes the Gunners are in the hunt for a top-four spot after securing some incredible deals this summer.
When asked about who had the best summer, Carragher said: “I’m looking at Arsenal.

“Not so much as in I think they are going to challenge for the title, I still think they will be there or thereabouts in the top four.
“But when you think about the pessimism after the Europa League final and how far they were away from Chelsea in that game.
“And there is talk of £40m to spend which isn’t a great deal of money.
“You could look at at it and think maybe Arsenal are being clever telling people that they had £40m to spend.

“I don’t know what they’ve actually spent, they have got the Iwobi money back so maybe it is around that figure.
“But they seem to have done a lot of business and come out a lot healthier than people, certainly Arsenal fans, were fearing.”
Arsenal won their Premier League season-opener 1-0 against Newcastle on Sunday and next face Burnley on Saturday.
