Driver deliberately lures seagull into path of traffic then laughs as it’s run over

A man filmed himself luring seagulls into a busy road with chips before laughing when a passing car hit one of them at high speed.

In the video, the man, who is parked in a van on the side of a busy road, throws chips out of his window and is heard saying: ‘I don’t care if a f****** car comes, watch this.’

Filmed on Towyn Road in Abergele, Wales, in mid-July, the video captures seagulls circling in the sky, occasionally swooping down into the road to pick at the chips.

Eventually, one of the birds is hit when it flies down into the road just as a car drives past.

The footage was posted on a public Facebook profile with crying laughing emojis before it was taken down.

The man posting it online said he felt no remorse because the birds had stolen his chips, writing: ‘I warned them I’d get revenge.’

The video has since been removed by Facebook.

All birds, their nests and eggs are protected by law under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, making it a criminal offence to intentionally kill or injure any wild bird.

Anyone found guilty under the act could be sentenced to up to six months in prison, given an unlimited fine, or both.

An officer from the RSPCA described the video as ‘shocking’ and has urged anyone with information to come forward.

The officer told Metro.co.uk: ‘There is absolutely no justification for this behaviour where gulls have been tempted with food towards a dangerous road and then laughing as a bird is seriously injured by a fast-moving car.

‘We are shocked by this footage and are keen for anyone with information to contact us 0300 1234 999, in confidence.’
