RACING CLUB WARWICK  V AFC WULFRUNIANS

 

AFC travelled to Warwick to face an in form Racing Club side.

 

AFC had started the season poorly with two straight defeats, so clearly this FA Cup tie was going to be a very tough afternoon for the visitors.

 

A very strong wind was blowing straight down the pitch and AFC had the benefit of the wind at their backs in the first half.

 

The game started brightly with both sides moving the ball well and playing decent football.

 

As the half progressed, aided by the wind, AFC began to dominate the play. Connor Hopkins was taking the opportunity to use his long clearances to keep RC on the backfoot and it was from one of these penetrating clearances that AFC took the lead as the ball sat up nicely for AFC number 9 Christopher Knight to volley into the net from fully 25 yards. A great goal, a contender for goal of the season, and AFC went in at half time in good spirits.

The second half was going to be a battle with AFC playing against the wind, however they had the better of the early exchanges and the AFC defence was more than a match for the Racing Club attacking efforts.

 

Midway through the second half AFC got a priceless second with the ever dangerous Jumaane Meggoe cutting in from the right before slotting home following some neat interplay by the AFC midfield.

 

From here on RC Warwick put AFC under tremendous pressure and it was one way traffic to the end of the game. However, it has to be said that keeper Hopkins was well protected by a resolute AFC team and they held out to the end without conceding.

 

A great result, a great performance and a tremendous team effort. One step closer to Wembley.
