The four Spurs players who impressed against Aston Villa

Tottenham Hotspur are off to a winning start after beating Aston Villa 3-1 at the new stadium. It wasn’t an easy win though, with Spurs going 1-0 down and Villa being the better team at times.

Let’s take a look at the foyr Spurs players who stood out in the first match of the new season:

Danny Rose 

Rose stood out for a number of reasons for me. Firstly, it sounds as if he came close to leaving the club at the end of the transfer window. However, the left-back was not put off by this at all. He still slipped straight back into the starting XI and worked his socks off. He was fast, powerful, direct, aggressive, and proactive. While he did give it away a few times, that is bound to occur when you are actively trying to make things happen.

Kyle Walker-Peters

The Tottenham academy graduate could have easily let the occasion get the better of him. This portion at the start of the season does feel very make or break for him at age 22. He has a chance to play a few games without any other right backs breathing down his neck. I would say that this first act in his audition was very impressive. While he held back a little when going forward in the first 45, he remained defensively strong throughout. He also seemed to grow in confidence as the minutes ticked by. Not a first choice yet perhaps, but has earned himself another look.

Harry Kane

While Kane has a pretty poor and quiet game, we simply have to give him a mention. Right place, right time. Kane has this knack of stepping up and grabbing himself a couple of goals out of nothing. Although it may look lucky or easy, believe me, it is a skill. If Spurs can keep this man injury-free all season, there will be plenty more goals to come.

Christian Eriksen

Spurs do not win the game if this man does not come on, simple as that. Played 26 minutes and completely changed the dynamic of the match. He delivered some wicked crosses, beat plenty of first men with his corners, and just moved the ball around far faster than anyone had been doing. New contract needed.
