The four Tottenham players who struggled against Aston Villa

Tottenham Hotspur may have won their opening match of the Premier League season, but it didn’t exactly have the decisiveness of Man City’s 5-0 win over West Ham.

Spurs went behind and struggled for long periods of the match, but eventually came good once Christian Eriksen was sent on.

Despite the win, we take a look at the five Spurs players who struggled against Villa. Some changes needed?

Harry Winks

Usually crisp, confident, and quick in his decision-making, Winks looked far from his best today. He gave the ball away in some dangerous areas and misplaced multiple passes throughout his time on the pitch. While I have no doubt that he is the future of the Spurs midfield, he clearly needs some more time to refind his best form.

Erik Lamela

After his pre-season, I was expecting so much from Lamela, but he delivered nothing today. Poor on the ball, did little defensively, and I actually forgot he was on the pitch in the second half. With Lo Celso coming in, Lamela needs to step up or accept his position on the bench.

Moussa Sissoko

While he did some good work on the ball today, his final third decision making was way off. Time and time again he got into dangerous positions and failed to find his man, misplaced a pass, or fired a shot well off target.

Lucas Moura

Looked so sharp in the first few minutes and should have grabbed a couple of goals. However, when Spurs went 1-0 down, the Brazilian seemed to vanish and had little impact on the match from that moment on. However, he has so much talent, I am sure he will be back to his goal-scoring best in no time.
