Catching up on the last few weeks of soccer action on US television, the 2019 MLS All-Star Game averaged just 808,000 viewers across FOX Sports 1, UniMás and TUDN. Total viewership was down 15% from last year with English-language viewership at its lowest point since at least 2012. Only 182,000 watched FS1’s English broadcast of the match, down 60% from last year’s All-Star broadcast on ESPN and down 57% from 2017’s also on FS1.
FOX Sports 1’s five MLS broadcasts in July averaged 201,200 viewers, up 27% from an average 157,846 viewers for the networks prior 13 broadcasts of 2019. FS1 saw its highest audience for an MLS match since August 2017 when 305,000 tuned in to watch New York City FC take on the Portland Timbers on July 7.
Univision’s Mexican soccer broadcasts started off strong with the Campeón de Campeones match between Club América and Tigres delivering the competition’s strongest television audience in the United States since it was restarted in 2014. It was the second most-watched club Soccer match in the United States in the month of July.
The quarterfinals of the inaugural Leagues Cup tournament averaged 243,000 viewers on TUDN with ESPN2’s lone broadcast featuring Los Angeles Galaxy and Club Tijuana drawing 146,000 to the network. Club América’s penalty victory over Houston Dynamo proved the most popular broadcast in Spanish with 318,000 tuning in.
