I have walked out on my husband over his interfering mother

DEAR DEIDRE: I HAVE taken my son and moved back in with my parents because my mother-in-law is so horrible.

She blanked me on my 21st birthday and ignored me for the following four years.

I had a baby two years ago, when I was 26, and suddenly she spoke to me again.

She looked after him one day a week so I could work but would never tell me what he’d eaten or where she took him. I didn’t like it.

She even took him to a doctor without our say-so.

My husband is 32 and always takes her side.

She suggested we move into her late father’s house while we saved for a deposit. The place was just as he’d left it.

I didn’t dare touch anything but she’d let herself in to snoop through our things.

She banned my mum from visiting and the situation was so stressful I have moved out.

DEIDRE SAYS: She is trying with all her might to hold on to her son and grandson and sees you as her love rival.

Tell your husband you understand how hard it is for him to stand up to his mother but he is an adult now.

Ask him to give her firm boundaries so you can move back in with him.

He could encourage her to find interests outside the family, too.
