Bridge Pedal to close downtown bridges Sunday
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A major celebration of Portland’s bridges and bikes is happening Sunday.
The 24th Annual Providence Bridge Pedal gives Portlanders a rare chance to walk or bike on the bridges without worrying about cars. That means people driving around downtown will have to adjust their routes Sunday morning.
The Fremont Express ride is the 23-mile route from the Marquam Bridge to the main ride. The main ride is a 20-mile route from the Sellwood Bridge to the Fremont Bridge. There is also a family-friendly ride that crosses 6 downtown bridges and a kid’s ride across the Hawthorn and Steel bridges.
About 10,000 people are expected to take part in the event.
Bridge Pedal is free if you registered for the event in advance. Registration closes Saturday at 11:59 p.m.
Bridge closures:
Fremont — Closed upper deck (southbound) 4 a.m. to noon
Steel — Closed (eastbound) from 6:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. (MAX running)
Morrison — Open with lane restrictions from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Hawthorne — Closed (eastbound) 4 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Marquam — Closed upper deck (northbound) 4 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Ross Island — Closed (westbound) 5:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Sellwood — Open but north sidewalk and bike lane closed 6-9:30 a.m.
Morrison, Burnside, Broadway, Sellwood and St. Johns bridges open in both directions
