Ahead of their rematch, watch the first meeting between heavyweight legends Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic.
Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic have been in this spot before.
At UFC 241, heavyweight champ Cormier (22-1 MMA, 11-1 UFC) will face the man he beat for the belt, Ohio’s Miocic (18-3 MMA, 12-3 UFC), in a rematch of their UFC 226 fight.
UFC 241 takes place Aug. 17 at Honda Center with a main card that airs on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and ESPN+/UFC Fight Pass.
When he entered their first bout in July 2018, Miocic held the record for most sequential heavyweight title defenses with three (Francis Ngannou, Junior Dos Santos, Alistair Overeem). However, Miocic’s momentum came to a screeching halt as he squared off with then-light heavyweight champ Cormier.
After a competitive opening four minutes, Cormier and Miocic entered the clinch. The two fighters pummeled in the middle of the cage and Cormier was able to sneak his arm out. Before Miocic could block, Cormier landed a cracking punch to the head of the heavyweight king. Miocic toppled to the ground, where Cormier landed a series of follow-up shots that shut off the lights.
The knockout earned Cormier his second simultaneous UFC title. “DC” became only the second man behind Conor McGregor to achieve that feat.
Miocic has not competed since their first meeting 13 months ago, while Cormier defended his bout against Derrick Lewis at UFC 240 in November. Cormier submitted Lewis via second-round rear-naked choke.
With the rematch around the corner, the UFC has made their first fight free to watch online. So go ahead and relive the moment Cormier defeated Miocic at UFC 226 in the video above.
