Jeffrey Epstein has died after taking his own life at a Manhattan jail.
The 66-year-old financier, who was indicted on sex trafficking charges last month, hanged himself in his jail cell, according to the New York Times.
Epstein‘s body was found at roughly 7:30am on Saturday morning (August 10) at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York City.
The charges that Epstein faces, for the alleged sex trafficking of minor girls at his homes in New York and Florida, date back to the early 2000s. He pleaded not guilty to the charges and faced 45 years in prison if convicted. After he was denied bail last month, he was found unresponsive in his jail cell with marks on his neck after an apparent suicide attempt. Epstein was set to face trial next year.
Epstein was a millionaire and acquaintance of stars and politicians including Donald Trump and Bill Clinton. Even after serving jail time in the 2000s, he maintained his connections in the financial world.
