Re: “Menacing invective against Trump creates scary climate” (Victor Davis Hanson column, Opinion section, Mercurynews.com, Aug. 2)
Victor Davis Hanson’s Aug. 2 column has to be the limpest argument ever published. He blames Democrats for the violence in America; since a few have said essentially, “He makes me so angry I’d like to hit him.”
I can’t imagine anyone rushing out to punch the president based on such a mild quote. His one example of violence? Someone who acted on his own anger at the hate speech of the very people he attacked.
Contrast this with the great leader, who gives fiery speeches inciting fear and anger. He commands his supporters so completely that all he has to do is extend his arms and the crowd immediately begins a unified “hate du jour” chant. His language is then repeated by others who, calling themselves “free speech conservatives,” find angry young men online and urge them to hatred and violence and often get what they want.
