Gold Derby launches 2020 Oscars predictions center! Make your 1st picks today in 8 categories
Were you predicting that “Green Book” would win the 2019 Oscar for Best Picture all the way back to last August? Think of the glory that would bring to you for such an incredibly early yet accurate pick. Then jump into our brand new 2020 Oscars predictions center event today and make your first picks so that initial odds can be set in each category. We are offering eight of the 2020 Academy Awards categories now — Best Picture, Best Director, four for acting and two for screenplay — with the rest to be added over the next few months.
We have been in touch with the studios, distributors and campaigners over recent weeks to find out which movies are tops among their contenders. You’ll find close to 60 films in our event that they are recommending we offer for predictions. Our only two requirements are that each movie listed has a distributor lined up in the U.S. and that each one has a distribution date. If not, we will wait until later on before adding.
As you see people in lead and supporting categories, these choices are where they land right now. Of course, several might change positions over time, and we’ll be shifting them as necessary.
Some storylines to watch for this awards season:
Will Cynthia Erivo (“Harriet”) complete her EGOT?
How about a third acting Oscar for Cate Blanchett, Robert De Niro, Tom Hanks or Maggie Smith? Or even a fourth for Meryl Streep?
Will a woman (or several) like Chinonye Chukwu, Greta Gerwig, Alma Har’el, Marielle Heller, Kasi Lemmons, Melina Matsoukas, Reed Morano, Dee Rees, Lulu Wang or Olivia Wilde take Best Director slots?
Will a blockbuster like “Avengers: Endgame,” “Toy Story 4”, “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” or “The Lion King” find a Best Picture slot?
Will Oscar-winning filmmakers such as Pedro Almodovar, Bill Condon, Tom Hooper, Ang Lee, Sam Mendes, Jordan Peele, Martin Scorsese, Steven Soderberg or Quentin Tarantino make triumphant returns?
