Olivia Wilde’s Tweet About Her Toddler’s Meltdown & the Strangers Who Came to Her Rescue is Going Viral

Being a mom is hard work, especially when you have a screaming child on your hands. Thankfully, there’s still some kindness in the world. Actress and director Olivia Wilde tweeted how kind strangers helped her during a toddler meltdown, and the thread is going viral. It looks like the rest of Twitter is just as starved for some good news as we are — and the reminder that the kindness of strangers does in fact exist was exactly what we needed.

Wilde got candid on her Twitter account yesterday, sharing how her 5-year-old son Otis was in the midst of a “level 10, defcon 1, couldn’t-control-his-body meltdown at a restaurant.” It wasn’t anything out of the ordinary, more the result of hunger and being overwhelmed by the day, but it was bad. Wilde herself was equally overwhelmed by the situation: “It was chaos,” she writes. “The place was packed and we were very much on display. I was in way over my head. I stayed calm but I was kind of crumbling inside.” (A feeling we can all relate to.)

But then, things got good: “In the midst of the madness, 2 strangers, a young man and woman, approached and asked if they could help,” Wilde writes. They then proceeded to help her with her bags, put her 2-year-old daughter Daisy into a car seat, and reassure her that “we all have days like this” as Wilde apologized.

Couple days ago my kid was having a level 10, defcon 1, couldn’t-control-his-body meltdown at a restaurant. It happens. Poor guy was hungry as hell and overwhelmed. I was holding four bags and my 2 yr old. It was chaos.

I swallowed my pride and said yes, please, and they walked with us, placed my stuff into my trunk, and even put my daughter in her car seat, while I tried to soothe my son. I thanked them and they said, “hey no problem. We all have days like this.”

I’m so moved by this simple act of kindness. Their generosity profoundly effected my (and my kids’) reality that day. I can’t wait to do this for someone else. Humans are good. We can’t forget that. ❤️
