Two killed in two accidents on Gender Road in two days
COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Two people have died in accidents on Gender Road in two days.
A makeshift memorial sits on Gender Road from Wednesday’s deadly accident. Thursday, another person was killed on that same road. Meghan Stokes lives just off that street.
“Deeply sorry for their losses. I hope this send a message to the community. In s split second someone’s life can be gone,” said Stokes.
Unfortunately for Stokes this all happened right in her neighborhood.
“It makes me worried for some of the kids that live in the neighborhood cause people do speed up and down though here,” said Stokes.
She’s a health nut and someone who runs though this neighborhood daily. However she says Gender Road isnt a place to break a sweat.
“This is too busy of a street for me to feel comfortable to walk though,” said Stokes.
Since these two deaths folks out here want the city to see if there’s a problem. Livingston McClinton is one of them.
“I would think they need to come out and evaluate it. Maybe they need to expand . Make it wider and put sidewalks out there to protect pedestrians,” said McClinton
At about 4:47pm, Thursday, a 2008 Hummer H3 was traveling northbound on Gender Road, approaching the Bennell Drive intersection, when the vehicle swerved off the road, then back on the roadway before striking the male pedestrian, who had been walking northbound.
The male victim then struck the pavement, and was later taken by medics to Mount Carmel East Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police have not identified the victim, pending the notification of next of kin.
The crash remains under investigation.
