Mother sobs as she hears drowned toddler’s heart beat inside baby whose life he saved

A mother gave an emotional sigh and sobbed as she heard her late toddler son’s heart beat inside a baby whose life he saved.

Brooke Eaton was overcome with emotion as she held Lola Bond and listened to the little girl’s new heart beat with a stethoscope.

She signed her son Cash up to be an organ donor after he drowned in a swimming pool accident during summer 2018 aged just two.

Recalling the moment she saw Lola, Eaton, from Minneapolis, Minnesota, told WCCO: ‘I walked into the room and broke down and immediately cried.

‘As soon as I saw her I fell in love with her. She’s just precious and that’s also my boy. I heard his heartbeat, that’s really beautiful.

‘To have a connection with my baby still, like with me and Lola, we’re going to have a connection the rest of our lives.’

Eaton’s meeting with Lola at University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital earlier this week was the first time she has met the recipient of Cash’s heart, or her family. Staff even tied Lola up in a bow to greet her.

Lola was born with a faulty heart caused by a condition called cardiomyopathy, with the transplant she received saving her life.

Eaton’s selflessness after Cash’s death meant three other children ended up benefiting from the toddler’s organs.

Lola’s grandma Margaret Bond Vorel was also touched by the meeting, saying: ‘Knowing that there’s a whole other family that loves her as we do is amazing.’
