Warriors announce their two-way signings

Golden State has made the Damion Lee and Ky Bowman contracts official.

The Golden State Warriors have made their two-way contracts official. On Wednesday, the team officially announced that shooting guard Damion Lee will return to the team for a second year, while rookie point guard Ky Bowman will begin his NBA career on a two-way contract.

Lee was hoping to earn a guaranteed contract somewhere, but did not get one, so he came back to familiar ground on a two-way contract. The sharpshooter is not only comfortable with the Warriors, but is Steph Curry’s brother-in-law.

The Warriors didn’t have the cap space to sign Lee to a guaranteed roster spot, but that could change down the road. If they make any trades - or waive the non-guaranteed contract of Alfonzo McKinnie - Golden State could convert Lee’s contract. He could also sign a contract at the end of the season, a la Quinn Cook in 2018, to become playoff eligible.

Lee played in 32 games for the Warriors a year ago. In 11.7 minutes per night, he averaged 4.9 points and 2.0 rebounds per game, while shooting 39.7% from three-point range. In 24 games with the G League’s Santa Cruz Warriors, Lee averaged 20.3 points and 6.0 rebounds per game, and shot 39.8% from deep.

Bowman, who went undrafted, played for three years at Boston College. In the 2018-19 season, he averaged 19.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game. He played for the Warriors Summer League squad a few weeks ago.

As a reminder, the two-way contracts will allow Lee and Bowman to be with Golden State for 45 days during the season. That does not include travel days, or days when the G League season is not in session. The G League season starts later than the NBA season, and ends earlier. Lee and Bowman will not be eligible to be on the playoff roster (unless their contracts are converted), though they can still travel and practice with the team during that time.
