Chris Matthews called 'sexist' for constantly interrupting Elizabeth Warren: Has he 'ever met a woman he doesn't want to talk over?'

“Master Interrupter” Chris Matthews was at it again while interviewing Elizabeth Warren after Tuesday’s debate — and social media didn’t like it. Some even branded him “sexist” over the exchange.

A clip of MSNBC’s Hardball with Chris Matthews host interviewing the Democratic presidential hopeful saw him continuously talking over her. Matthews was trying to get Warren to say she would raise taxes on the middle class to fund a proposed Medicare for All policy — saying she and the others “dodged” the answer in the debate — but she wouldn’t.

During the one-on-one, Warren continuously tried to give her answer, but Matthews yelled things like, “No, no, no” and “I know that argument” as we spoke.

Matthews finally said, “I’m not getting anywhere” and changed the topic.

Matthew’s interview tactic didn’t go unnoticed. One widely-liked and shared comment applauded the Massachusetts senator for standing up to Matthews, saying, “She’s got a spine of steel” and Matthews “should be ashamed.”

Many of the comments applauded Warren for holding steady and “not letting [Matthews] hijack the narrative.” Another said she went “full professor” on him.

The exchange led many to connect his interview style with her gender.

“Sexist” was a word used over and over again.

Matthew’s interview style isn’t new. His colleague Rachel Maddow once dubbed him the “Master Interrupter.” There are entire threads devoted to the topic of: Why does Chris Matthews talk over people?

His interrupting of women hasn’t gone unnoticed either. Mediate made a supercut on the topic — three years ago. All the instances came from one episode of his show.

He’s also been parodied on Saturday Night Live over it.

For the record, Matthews said in June that he thinks Warren is going to be a frontrunner in the 2020 presidential race. On The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, he predicted that she will “blow out” fellow contender Bernie Sanders “pretty early on.” He also called her an “engine of ideas,” “smart” and “someone to watch.”
