Man Utd prove they need a winger; Liverpool’s lack of signings is crazy

One Arsenal fan thinks the treatment of Shkodran Mustafi has been unfair, while Liverpool supporters are concerned about their lack of signings, and Manchester United readers debate how much they need a right winger – all in Your Says of the Day.

Mustafi treatment harsh

I genuinely find the treatment of Mustafi by Arsenal fans absolutely disusting, and to an extent even disgraceful. Some even going on to say that that the departure of Mustafi excites them more than the arrival of pepe.

When this guy joined us,I thought we had a decent defender. And to be honest he actually was, until he made a few mistakes. But that’s it there, mistakes is all it takes to find a scapegoat in the club.Ever since then all the blame was shifted towards mustafi. He could be sitting on the bench and still get blamed.Remember we got demolished against chelsea 4-1 in the final. He didn’t even play.

By no means am I making a case for him to be good enough to play in the starting eleven, all I’m pointing out is how mistreated he’s been compared to others.
At the Emirates cup he was booed…again disgraceful. You boo a player for poor attitude and commitment, not for his quality or lack of.
But you know letting him go is not even what I care about. It’s just the double standards. You know how many times AMN got turned, made mistakes last season.Do you know how many mistakes chambers and Holding have made.Mind you,in their debut game together they conceded 4 goals at home. But absoltely no mention of these kind of things, they get a “Free pass”

I want mustafi gone,it will be impossible for him to succeed here.He could be sitting on the bench and not play one game and still get blamed.Let’s see next season when the “saviours” chambers and holding perform the same way and will get treated the same way as him.
But if there is any chance of mustafi staying, for goodness sake back him or else you can’t call yourself fans.I’m not at all fond of AMN,dosen’t mean I’ll boo him every single game.

Sorry mate I can’t agree with you. He’s sh*t. For a supposed International with the experience he has to be making the same mistakes over and over again is not great. You’ve compared him to AMN, Holding and Chambers. All players who are not seasoned internationals with anywhere near as much experience as he has. The three main players on this page who everyone has generally had enough of are Mustafi, Xhaka, and Ozil. Expensive players who one would argue on paper should form the spine of our team. They don’t. They tend to make it fall apart!

I’m not one for booing (never really understood the point) but personally I don’t make anyone of them a scapegoat. I just don’t think they are very good. I’m sure they could shine at another club or another league but either way, they are not doing it for us, and therefore, unless there is a significant step up this season, they need to move on.

And, IMO, Mustafi is the worst in terms of quality. No one makes as many mistakes as he does that are exactly the same and end up in the same end result (a draw or a loss against a team we should beat). Xhaka comes in second.

I know there are examples where they have had good games but I can’t really remember any (apart from maybe Mustafi goal against the spuds).

I’m afraid I think you may be the only fan, critic, pundit and Manager who thinks he is unfairly treated.

Liverpool lack of depth ‘crazy’

No matter what way you mash it up, it’s absolutely crazy we are not adding to the squad. Even two players.

Threeps has mentioned a right back aswell which makes sense. Taa is our main play maker from right full. Gomez in there nullifies is an attacking side.

It would be absolutely typical of us to regress after such an amazing season. I thought it was klopp who was happy with the squad but he looks very unhappy in his latest interview.

Owners aren’t starting the season well either saying they are looking to trade mark the name Liverpool.SOS released a statement

It’s been a negative pre season when we should be so positive going into this season

4/5 of our 1st 11 are not going to be fully ready for a while

Ox is well off the pace and is not a good solution as cover in the 3.

Lalanna cannot be counted on

Brewster comes in for Sturridge and no replacement for Moreno

It’s maddness lads. We cl champions ffs

Sean the sailor

Yeah absolute madness, you might think that we had sold off our star players or something considering the fits you lot are having.

We have lost a left back that nobody at the club wanted to see play, we have lost a striker that could not stay fit for more than half a week.

With the young guns coming into the first team we have improved our squad already when our closest rivals have lost their captain who led them to four trophies.

You could not make this up!

NotoriousBingo

Are you not worried about fatigue or burnout for the front 3?

I hope to see klopp use Shaqiri a bit more like he did before Christmas

Sean the sailor

Shaqiri Klopp TEAMtalk

No, Bobby and Mo are the fittest players at the club, Mane is not far behind. Brewster can play a lot more than Sturridge and Origi is in the form of his life. We have nothing to worry about unless someone breaks a leg.

iv been keeping an eye on this thread over the last few weeks & like many on here feel a little underwhelmed with our transfer business but at the same time i knew Klopps net spend wouldn’t be breaking the 100M barrier this summer. I have to agree with him in as much as we need to keep our best players but it also feels like we are hoping Man city have an off season.

Chelsea need some sales

Only a week left for the transfer window closes so again we leaving it a bit late to offload the not required players.

Blaze

I cannot see what’s in it for us to loan those players. We won’t use them. Both have spent sufficient time and both failed to prove their value to us. If it was down to me: I would sell Bakayoko to Everton for a fair price. But if any club outside England or outside Premier League want to buy him: let’s offer him in a cut price. If we can offload those players, any money generated from the transfer would be good for us and also we will save up some salary space as each of them gains probably 100k per week.

Juve will sell Moise Kean to Everton. IMO it just shows that Sarri does not like working with young players. Glad that now we have Frank Lampard as Mount and RLC have signed their extension and will be followed by CHO some time soon. In this matter, we already win by choosing Lampard over Sarri.

I still can see Bakayoko attracting suitors but not Drinkwater. We need to loan him out. We have Jorg, Kovacic, Kanté, and probably Mount competing for the same position. (I don’t put Barkley and RLC as they are more attacking). As well as we can put Luiz or Christensen in that position too.

If we don’t use Michy, Palace may want to buy him. He scored some goals for them last season. But from our pre-season, I don’t think he is Chelsea quality. And the fact that he wasn’t able to gain the starting place under Conte, Sarri and now probably Lampard, probably it’s time we sell him.

While it’s risky to sell some players when we cannot buy, I think we should use this season to rebuild the team. We were never able to rebuild after our golden era gone (Lamp, JT, Cech, Drogba, Cole) but what we did is just to continue to patch it. Mou part deux succeeded to win the league, Conte succeeded too, Sarri to some extent too as he won Europa. But now it’s time to rebuild. Mason Mount, Abraham, RLC, CHO (hope he will sign): time to integrate them.

aindro

Michy will stay simply because including him we only have three strikers. You cannot go into a season of four different competitions with only two strikers especially when one of them is 32 years of age. Michy will get his chance at some stage of the season and it will be up to him to do the business. He’ll do ok. He can be no worse than Morata was and I have more faith in him staying on his feet and actually having a go.

Maybe Kenedy can be considered in a striker role at a pinch but does not fill me with a great deal of confidence. The rest Willian Pedo and CHO are pretty much wingers and not sure whether they are suited to a false nine role in need.

Rivals’ signings frustrating Man Utd

I understand we are all panicked and frustrated by the lack of transfer activity but to get signings in for the sake of it would be similarly foolish in my view. We don’t need Moise Kean when we already have 3 young strikers in Martial, Greenwood and Rashford – it makes no sense to panic about Everton signing a young striker with minimal experience for 40 million quid.

We don’t need Pepe or Dybala either, it sounds like more misplaced panic from our fans to me.

What this team needs is central defenders, central midfielders, and to get rid of deadwood. The Pepe signing looks stupid to me on Arsenal’s part – the weakest part of their team is their defence by a long way; they actually need an entirely new defence from scratch and yet they seem primed to spunk their entire budget on another attacker.

I get it, Woodward is doing a terrible job but that doesn’t mean we should throw our toys out at every single signing made by another team.

hatters

Before pre-season started I thought we needed 2 CM’s. This was based on us playing a 3 man midfield. Now I’ve seen how Ole has set the team up during pre-season, as a 4-2-3-1, I don’t think we are going to sign any! We have been playing with 2 CM’s, Pogba has been playing in one of these 2 positions. Once the season starts assume it will be Pogba and one of McTominay, Fred, Pereira or Matic alongside him. Can definitely improve the other CM option, however, once the attacking positions are considered, we need to look there first.
There are 3 attacking midfield positions between Mata, Sanchez, Martial, Lingard, James, Gomez and Chong (assuming Rashford and Greenwood as the Striker but could include them as well). Pepe or Dybala look like very good additions to this lot. As both can play on the right or central, it surprises me we aren’t in for either of them or for Fernandes who I think would excel in the #10/central position.

hookeddevil

@hatters – we desperately need a right winger – have needed one desperately since Valencia and Nani stopped playing those positions! Currently our squad looks like this:

LW – Sanchez, Martial, Gomes, Chong

FW – Rashford, Lukaku

RW – Lingard, Mata, James, Greenwood

Dybala and Pepe are absolutely, definitely needed at RW – there’s absolutely no doubt about it. If we plan on relying on Lingard, Mata and James to be our main right wingers this season then we won’t get Top Four – simple as that. And if Lukaku leaves, I’m sorry but we don’t have a good enough striker to lead our line if Rashford gets injured or loses form.

And yes, Kean isn’t our highest priority, but if we’re getting rid of Lukaku anyway (because he doesn’t want to be here and doesn’t fit our system) then we should be getting, at the very least, a top young striker to fill the gap left by him (would much prefer we got Dybala mind you).

Yes, both us and Arsenal need to improve our backlines before looking at our forward lines, but if we can improve our attack for cheap – why on earth not?! It’s like saying that we shouldn’t bring in Messi or Mbappe just because our back line is worse off – that’s rubbish (obviously) – the truth is our entire team is not good enough and we should improve in every area we can. 20m for Pepe right now is a minimal amount, 40m for Kean is going to prove a bargain… that’s 60m layout this year – not even one Lukaku! where is the logic in not signing Pepe and Kean but keeping an unhappy Lukaku and losing 10m on top of all of it?!

Sympathy for the Devils

I think a lot of you are missing the point. A RW is not a priority for us right now, especially with Wan Bissaka able to actually provide width. It’s clear we have a limited budget so why waste it on a winger?

You lot seem to be more interested in putting the icing on the cake when we have no cake.

It’s simple – last season we conceded the most league goals we have conceded since the 1960s. It follows that we should be signing a proper CB and a screening defensive midfielder to protect the back 4. Any monies spent on other options before those two key positions are tantamount to negligence in my view. You first build the foundations of the house before buying chandeliers.

I can see Woodward wetting his pants with excitement trying to get a swap deal for Dybala – another luxury signing to sell shirts who might score goals and bring creativity but it will all mean nothing when any decent attacker runs at our central defence.

hatters

At this point I’d pay £90m for Maguire just to get the deal over the line, I’d even throw Jesse Lingard in and offer to pay half his wages as a goodwill gesture. More than any other position we need a centre back. Not just a good CB but one who can organise those around him, who has a bit of experience. Maguire ticks all those boxes, he may not be the most talented CB in the world but he can bring some much needed organisation and consistency to our defensive pairing. We need Maguire more than Leicester need to sell so just stump up the f***ing cash and get him in the door.

killyboye

Last minute penalty the only way to score against a Norwegian team who only started as a club in 2003… People still don’t think we need a creative right winger?

truth is most of the squad isn’t good enough but we are definitely losing Lukaku and have the chance to replace him with two much better players in Dybala and Pepe… so why not go for it?

Need to bring in Maguire and Fernandes too.

Rojo, Darmian, Bailly, Matic, Lingard, Lukaku, Sanchez can and should all be sold – they won’t bring anything to our team except empty performances and a high wage bill.
