Strikes suspended at London Stansted Airport

London travellers flying with easyjet can sleep easy knowing their holiday plans won’t be ruined after planned strikes have been suspended.

The planned 72-hour strike was scheduled to begin tomorrow at Stansted Airport, as the school summer holidays are in full swing.

But the strike has been suspended while staff vote on a revised pay offer over the weekend.

The action was planned over an ongoing dispute with Stobart Aviation Services Limited – a passenger service support business – which is under the chairmanship of the conciliation service Acas.

Unite regional officer Mark Barter said: ‘To give our members the opportunity to consider and to ballot on this offer we have suspended the 72-hour strike and our members will be working normally this weekend.

‘Today’s new offer comes after our members had rejected a previous pay offer earlier this week.

‘We won’t be revealing the details of the revised offer until our members have voted on it.’

Further walkouts are still planned during August if there is no agreement.

The strikes are planned from August 2 – 5, 9 – 12, 16 – 19 and 23 – 27.
