San Jose: Bank robbery suspect arrested at Golfland

SAN JOSE – Authorities on Tuesday arrested a suspected bank robber after finding him hiding out at a South San Jose miniature golf course.

Officers were dispatched to a Wells Fargo Bank branch at 1006 Blossom Hill Road about 5:45 p.m. for a report of a robbery, according to San Jose police Sgt. Enrique Garcia.

Garcia said the suspect – later identified as Kellan Megarity, 32, of San Jose — passed a note to a teller demanding money. No weapon was seen and the suspect fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Patrol officers arrested Megarity a short time later at Golfland at 976 Blossom Hill Road, according to Garcia. NBC Bay Area reported that the miniature golf course was evacuated during a search for the suspect.

“We were just playing golf, and the next thing we knew every cop was like everybody has to get out,” Anais Ranque said in an interview with the station. “We were wondering how bad of a guy he could have been because there were a lot of cop cars for just one guy.”

Megarity was booked into the Elmwood Correctional Facility in Milpitas on a robbery charge. He is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail and is set to make his first court appearance Friday.
