Report: How much Spurs will demand for Alderweireld beyond Friday’s deadline
Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld has been linked with a move away from the club for the vast majority of the summer (The Sun).
The 30-year-old has a release clause set at £25 million in his contract that is valid until the 26th of July (The Guardian) but no club has yet to activate it.
The Belgian international recently revealed that he is expecting to still be in North London beyond the current transfer window.
A report in The Sun now claims that Manchester United are now looking at Alderweireld once again as an alternative to Leicester City’s Harry Maguire who will cost £80 million.
The report suggests that unless the Red Devils activate Alderweireld’s release clause by Friday, the Lilywhites will demand £40 million for him this summer.
The defender who joined Spurs from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2015, has one year left on his contract with Tottenham.
The centre half captained the Spurs side that started against Juventus in Singapore last Sunday.

One would think that if no team is ready to pay £25 million for Alderweireld, they are unlikely to be willing to pay £40 million for the 30-year-old. We think it is time that the defender put pen to paper on a new deal with the club.
