Humberto Arteaga is recalled.
The Royals have placed shorstop Adalberto Mondesi on the 10-day injured list with a “left shoulder subluxation” and have recalled infielder Humberto Arteaga to take his spot on the roster. Mondesi exited Tuesday night’s game against the White Sox in the fifth inning after diving for a foul ball down the left field line and landing awkwardly on his left shoulder.
After the game, Ned Yost told reporters:
“Nothing he could do,” manager Ned Yost said. “Just going for the ball and got extended. Hurt his shoulder.”
Mondesi was hitting .266/.294/.433 with seven home runs in 82 games and a league-high 31 steals. He missed two weeks in late June with a groin injury.
Adalberto Mondesi said he hasn’t been told of any timeline for recovery of his partially dislocated shoulder. He started treatment today. Hinted that he felt lucky it wasn’t worse.

Arteaga has appeared in 11 games this year with the Royals, hitting .237/.293/.263 with one stolen base. The 25-year old is noted for his glove and is capable of playing solid defense at shortstop. Nicky Lopez is in the lineup at shortstop tonight with Whit Merrifield at second base.
The Royals also added pitcher Mike Montgomery to the roster and optioned pitcher Jake Newberry to Triple-A Omaha. Montgomery will start Friday against Cleveland.
