Man City sign long throw-in specialist Rory Delap’s son Liam
LIAM DELAP, son of Stoke City hero Rory, is Manchester City’s fourth signing of the summer.
Following the captures of Rodri, Angelino and Zack Steffen, Pep Guardiola’s side snapped up the Derby County striker in a deal confirmed by the 16-year-old on Monday.
Liam captioned a picture of himself in a City shirt: “Buzzing to have signed for Man City, thanks to everyone for the 10 years I spent at Derby.
“Can’t wait for the new season.”
Republic of Ireland international Rory also played for the Rams, between 1998 and 2001, and later made his name at Stoke City.
In the club’s return to the Premier League in 2008/09, the midfielder became a sensation thanks to his long throws into the penalty box.
He claimed six direct assists that campaign and created many more chances with his fearsome throws, attributed to his schoolboy spell as a javelin champion.
Perhaps son Liam is more used to knocking the ball into the net than lobbing it into the box.

The attacker appeared seven times for Derby in the Under-18 Premier League last season, scoring once.
City’s interest first emerged in June after Delap netted four goals for England Under-16s at the Mercedes Benz Agean Tournament.
That feat won him the Golden Boot of the event, hosted in Turkey.
