Diego Costa’s Everton transfer at risk as Flamengo hold talks with Atletico Madrid over striker

FLAMENGO have reportedly been in talks with Diego Costa over a proposed transfer for the forward – which could see a potential move to Everton break down.

Costa, 30, was set to undergo talks with the Toffees, but the Brazilian club have swooped in with an attempt to prize him away from the Premier League.

After the arrival of Joao Felix and Alvaro Morata this summer, the striker has been told he can leave the Wanda Metropolitano.

Despite the former Chelsea star costing the Spanish giants £57 million back in January 2018, he only managed to score three goals in the last campaign.

According to ESPN Brasil, Ronaldinho’s former side are reportedly set to offer between £9m and £12m for the 30-year-old, showing just how disappointing Costa’s second spell in Madrid has been.

But the main issue with this deal is the 30-year-old’s salary, claims Jorge Nicola.

Currently earning almost £150,000 per week, he earns double what any of the men in red and black take home, which could pose a problem in bringing him to Brazil.

This wouldn’t be as much of a problem for Everton, who already have six players earning at least £100,000 a week.

Having netted 58 times in three seasons at Stamford Bridge, the two-time Premier League winner is a proven goalscorer in the Premier League.

Despite a difficult spell in back in Spain, he could be a bargain buy if he’s able to rediscover his form.
